The annual UDCA Thanksgiving Party is always a lively weekend night full of food, friends, performances, and games. A long-standing tradition, the party is typically held the Saturday after Thanksgiving, giving everyone a chance to recover from the inevitable daze of turkey and mashed potatoes on Thursday and arrive at the party ready for a mouthwatering array of popular Chinese dishes. Every year, the party is open to anyone in the community and surrounding counties looking to experience an exceptional, unique night of culture before the end of Thanksgiving break.

In 2019, the party was held at Maple Glen Elementary School from 5-10 pm. The night kicked off with delicious catering provided by Chong Dumpling House and the newly opened Dim Sum Factory. From stir-fried noodles to rice cakes to steamed pork buns (baozi), all of the beloved classics were present with guests welcome to fill up their plates to their heart’s content. Following dinner and chatting with friends, a series of impressive traditional-style performances ensued, including an elegant Mongolian choreography, outstanding vocal showcase, a memorable martial-arts infused Korean dance performance, and an exquisite aerobic display of flexibility. During the event, newly elected UDCA President Mr. Xinkai Kong recognized and thanked former President Mr. Shuhong Liu for his decade of service to the community. We are incredibly grateful for his contribution and leadership. The professional artists who will be performing at the upcoming UDCA 2020 Lunar New Year Gala in January were then given a warm introduction. Events that followed included a raffle for tickets to the Lunar New Year Gala and a variety of family-friendly games. A night brimming with laughter and applause, the Thanksgiving party was a wonderful opportunity for friends and neighbors of different cultures to celebrate together in a special way and make new memories to be grateful for.
